Students graduate from seminary at the Hacienda Heights Stake.

A dozen students graduated from seminary in the Hacienda Heights Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints last weekend. The local district covers much of the San Gabriel Valley.

To graduate, students must earn credit for all four years of high school. The local teens had to attend 80 percent of the seminary classes held before the regular school began.

The Rowland Heights Community Coordinating Council will meet 7 p.m. on
June 10 at Pathfinder Park. Besides reports from law enforcement and representatives of elected officials, topics include a presentation by Hills For Everyone of their study of the history of fires in the Chino/Puente Hills area, and election of the executive board.

Rowland Heights residents, organizations, and businesses may talk directly with the agencies and representatives affecting the quality of life in this
unincorporated community.

The Hurley Hawks Soccer Team won Rowland Unified’s Soccer Championship for the 6th straight year, ending with a perfect 10 and 0 record for the second year. Hurley Coaches/Teachers Willie Navarrete and Carlos Munguia shared the following information:

The Soccer Season offered many competitive games. The final top four teams were Hurley, Yorbita, Jellick and Killian. The Semifinal games scores were: Hurley 5 Killian 1. Yorbita 3 and Jellick 2.

“The Final (Championship Game) was a rematch of last year’s soccer championship and just like last year, Hurley prevailed! This year’s game was very intense and closely played. Ivan Arellano of Hurley scored the only goal of the game while Hurley goalie Ramiro Pelestor made many beautiful saves to preserve the victory,” said Munguia.

“As the season progressed, our players played with increased vigor, enthusiasm and confidence, even when they were down on the score. We are very proud of our boys and girls for giving their best to the sport they love,” said Navarrete.
