Diamond Bar kicks off 25th anniversary with Winter Snow Fest on Jan. 18

Diamond Bar residents get $500 each in Report for Reward program

Four Diamond Bar residents each recently got $500 for reporting suspicious activity that helped the Diamond Bar-Walnut Sheriff’s Station apprehend three
suspected burglars.

The financial rewards were approved by a committee comprising Sheriff’s personnel and City staff under the Report for Reward program which went into effect November 15, 2013.

Report for Reward aims to help combat residential and vehicular crimes within city limits by providing members of the public with a monetary incentive of up to $500 for information leading to the arrest of individuals who damage or destroy property while attempting or executing a residential or vehicular burglary.

The program is open to everyone; City and Sheriff’s employees, however, are not eligible for a reward.

To encourage wider participation in the Report for
Reward program, City staff and Sheriff’s deputies in late November 2013 met with Diamond Bar employees of  the United States Postal Service and the City’s contract street sweeping company to inform them of the program and guide them on how to detect suspicious behavior while out in the field.

Additional meetings are planned with other City vendors and area service providers in the coming weeks. Community groups who would like a presentation on the Report for Reward program may contact City Hall at 909.839.7000.

Residents are reminded that the key to combating burglary crimes in their
respective neighborhoods is to remain vigilant, look out for their neighbors,
trust their instincts, and immediately call the Sheriff’s Station if something does not look or feel right.

A phone call to the Sheriff’s Station at 909.595.2264 (9-1-1 if the burglary incident is in progress) is currently the only way to report suspicious activity as part of the Report for Reward program.

More information about the program, including answers to frequently-asked questions, is available on the City website diamondbarca.gov/RFR.

Rowland responds: Will Nogales High get a new performing arts center?

ROWLAND RESPONDS:
The first question that Rowland Unified received through Rowland Responds was whether Nogales High School will be receiving a new performing arts center like the one planned to be built at Rowland High School. The following is a response from the Educational Services Division:

RESPONSE:

Nogales High School will not have a performing arts center; however, it will have access to the new center at Rowland High School like the rest of the community. The new design of Nogales High School will include the development of a multipurpose room with a performance-level stage that will include lighting systems and sound board. In addition, the design at Nogales High School incorporates a dual stage system that can host indoor/outdoor performances. The design takes into consideration the open area on the campus for outdoor performances.

At Nogales High School, it is also anticipated that the existing “Little Theater” will be completely renovated as part of the second stage of construction at the campus. Part of the proposal for Nogales High School would also include a new pool and band room. The complete retrofit of the Little Theater would include improved seating, sound, lighting and stagework.
Information updates about the revitalization projects at both Nogales and Rowland High Schools will be updated regularly on the Measure R Bond section of the District website at www.RowlandSchools.org

Walnut High volunteers honored as partners in education

Partners in Education Award winners Paula Tsukada and Howard Rescoe join Principal Jeff Jordan, Coach Mike O’Shields and Helen Hall.
Partners in Education Award winners Paula Tsukada and Howard Rescoe join Principal Jeff Jordan, Coach Mike O’Shields and Helen Hall.
Walnut Valley Unified Board of Trustees honored Walnut High volunteers Paula Tsukada and Howard Rescoe with the Partner in Education Award.
“As you know about four years ago, our co-curricular programs took a huge hit financially. We had many conversations about how we would be able to continue to provide opportunities for our Walnut High kids. These two parents are an example of the many volunteers throughout the district who have been willing to step up and assist. They have been supportive of Walnut High School and our football program,” said Jordan.
Paula continues supporting our athletes and coaches even after her son has graduated. She is instrumental with organizing and fundraising thousands of dollars so the football program can continue to compete and support our student-athletes.
Howard is an excellent asset to assist the coaching staff. He videos every game as well as practices for the coaches. He uploads the film for the coaches and players so they can review it on Huddle, an online viewing system. Howard also has made a website to advertise the football program.
“Both of these parents are very much appreciated for their support and commitment to WHS Football,” said Jordan.
