Sheriff's deputies arrested a man following a fatal deputy-involved shooting in Highland on Monday night.

Sergio Jimenez, 23, of San Bernardino was booked into Central Detention Center in San Bernardino on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer and residential robbery, sheriff's officials said.

He and another 23-year-old man entered a home in the 25000 block of 9th Street and demanded money from the residents. Sheriff's officials said there were five adults and four children in the home, including 6-month-old twins.

A gun battle began when deputies arrived at the home. The unnamed robber was wounded by bullets and died during surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center at 8:47 p.m.

Deputies used a police dog to take Jimenez into custody. He had property stolen from the residence.

Anyone with information about may call sheriff's Detective Steve Pennington or Sgt. Tom Bradford, 909-387-3589.
