He improved his career record to 15-1-5 in 21 games against the Edmonton Oilers with a 3-2 victory Sunday.

Andrei Markov of the Montreal Canadiens was the second star.

Final: Kings 3, Oilers 2

The Kings won their fifth in a row, taking a 3-2 victory Sunday from the Edmonton Oilers thanks to a late power-play goal from Tanner Pearson and a favorable video review from the War Room in Toronto in the closing seconds. Final: Wild 3, Ducks 0

Ducks turned in another clunker of a loss, falling 3-0 to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, with general manager Bob Murray in attendance, according to reports. Ducks are 1-5-1 and have been shut out four times this season, leading to speculation that Bruce Boudreau’s tenure as coach could be nearing its end.

LA Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin talks about facing Oilers Connor McDavid for first time

The Kings will get their first up-close and personal look at Edmonton Oilers rookie Connor McDavid when they also try for their fifth consecutive victory on Sunday at Rexall Place. McDavid has five goals and eight points in his first eight games in the NHL after the Oilers took him with the first pick in the draft last June.

“Know as much about him as you guys know,” Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin said of playing against McDavid for the first time. “He’s got a lot of hype and rightfully so. He’s a special talent. There’s guys in the league that you have to keep an eye out for, a little extra attention, and he’s going to be one of them.”

“There’s a lot of media attention around him. Especially being in Canada (playing for the Oilers) and being from Canada, he’s got a lot of pressure on him. I think he’s done a good job so far. Us going in there, we’ve got to play him like anyone else. Play him physical. We’ve got to play our game if we want to win.”

Game report: Kings 3, Hurricanes 0

Key play: Goaltender Jonathan Quick stopped the Carolina Hurricanes’ first shot and their 40th and everything in between during the Kings’ 3-0 victory Friday at Staples Center, their fourth win in a row. It was his 38th career shutout.

Pivotal performer: Kings left wing Tyler Toffoli scored his team-leading fifth and sixth goals, including a power-play strike at 11:06 of the first period that extended his goal-scoring streak to a career-high four games.

Quote, unquote: “I try to find the open ice and try to have a step and an idea of where it is going to go,” Toffoli said when asked if the puck follows him around the ice. “I think right now it’s working well for me. I’m just playing like I always did while growing up, trying to find that open ice.”

Roster move: The Kings placed defenseman Matt Greene on injured reserve because of an upper-body injury. The move is retroactive to Oct. 13. There is no timetable for Greene’s return to the active roster. He hasn’t been cleared to resume full contact drills.

Between the pipes: Quick returned to the Kings’ net after Jhonas Enroth stopped 39 shots in a 4-1 victory Thursday over the Sharks in San Jose. Quick started each of the Kings’ first five games, going 2-3 with a 2.59 goals-against average and an .898 save percentage.

Special teams: Toffoli’s first-period goal was the Kings’ fourth in 26 power-play chances to start the season. They were mired in a 1-for-21 man-advantage slump before scoring twice in four opportunities on the power play during Thursday’s victory over the Sharks.

Up next: The Kings begin a two-game trip against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.

LA Kings place defenseman Matt Greene on IR with upper-body injury

The Kings on Friday placed defenseman Matt Greene on IR with an upper-body injury (retroactive to Oct. 13). He’s eligible to return to the active roster to join the team for it’s trip to play the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday and the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. But it might be a little while before he’s sound enough to play.

“He’s skating, but until he has full contact … ,” Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. “IR’s no big deal. Technically, he could play (Friday). If he was on (IR earlier), he could have been activated. You go on the road and it frees a spot up. That’s all that does.”

Kings recall defenseman Jamie McBain from AHL Ontario

The Kings recalled defenseman Jamie McBain from their AHL team in Ontario ahead of Thursday’s game against the Sharks in San Jose. McBain had a goal and an assist in three games for the Reign. He also had a plus-3 defensive rating. The 27-year-old McBain has played in 301 NHL games over six seasons, including 26 contests last season with the Kings. He had three goals and nine points in 2014-15.
