The Ducks recalled 20-year-old defenseman Shea Theodore from their American Hockey League team in San Diego on Tuesday. It appeared Theodore’s promotion from the Gulls to the Ducks was precautionary, what with Josh Manson out sick for Monday’s 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Korbinian Hozler took Manson’s spot in the lineup. Theodore has yet to make his NHL debut and general manager Bob Murray said last spring he wouldn’t rush the top prospect.
Theodore has one goal and eight points with a plus-4 defensive rating in 13 games for the Gulls. Overall, he has played in only 26 games in parts of two seasons in the AHL after the Ducks drafted him in the first round in 2013 (26th overall). He was the Defenseman of the Year in 2014-15 while playing for Seattle in the junior-level Western Hockey League.
