Game report: Ducks 5, Flames 3

Key play: Corey Perry’s second goal of the game, a tiebreaking power-play strike in the third period, propelled the Ducks to a 5-3 come-from-behind victory Tuesday over the Calgary Flames at the Honda Center. The Ducks’ win extended their home winning streak over the Flames to 21 consecutive games.

Pivotal performer: Team captain Ryan Getzlaf had a career-high five points, all assists. He set up third-period goals by Rickard Rakell, Perry and Ryan Kesler. Getzlaf’s only other five-point game was Oct. 29, 2008 against the Detroit Red Wings. The franchise record also five points, set 15 times.

Quote, unquote: “That’s what he brings to the table,” Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said of Getzlaf. “That’s why he’s played on Team Canada twice and won gold medals (in 2010 and ’14) and a Stanley Cup (in ’07). When he plays like that, he’s a force to be reckoned with.”

Illness update: Ducks goaltender Frederik Andersen came down with flu-like symptoms and was sent to the doctor before the morning skate. His availability for Wednesday’s game against the Arizona Coyotes was not immediately certain.

Roster move: The Ducks recalled goalie John Gibson from their American Hockey League team in San Diego. He was pressed into service when starter Anton Khudobin gave up two goals on five shots in the game’s first 10:39.

Injury update: Defenseman Hampus Lindholm returned to the Ducks’ lineup after sitting out a 5-0 loss Saturday to the Tampa Bay Lightning because of an upper-body injury. Lindholm was hurt during the Ducks’ 3-1 victory Thursday over the Florida Panthers.

Ducks goalie Frederik Andersen out sick, John Gibson recalled from AHL

The Ducks sent goaltender Frederik Andersen to the doctor Tuesday morning to get checked out after he came down with flu-like symptoms. They also recalled goalie John Gibson from their AHL team in San Diego to serve as their backup to  Anton Khudobin, who was expected to start Tuesday night against the Calgary Flames.

The corridor outside the dressing rooms was filled with retired goalies, none of whom stepped up to fill in. Present but not volunteering were: former Ducks goalies J.S. Giguere and Guy Hebert, ex-Kings goalie Kelly Hrudey, ex-Winnipeg and San Jose goalie Brian Hayward and former Minnesota and Edmonton netminder Dwayne Roloson, who now serves as the Ducks’ goaltending coach.

Hrudey works on the Calgary TV broadcasts and Hayward fills a similar role with the Ducks.

Ducks return Shea Theodore to AHL team in San Diego, NHL debut will have to wait

The Ducks on Wednesday returned top prospect Shea Theodore to their American Hockey League team in San Diego. Theodore’s much-anticipated NHL debut will have to wait. He has scored one goal and eight points in 13 games this season with the Gulls, and has played 26 games overall in the AHL. The 20-year-old was a first-round draft pick in 2013 (26th overall).

The Ducks recalled Theodore late Monday, but he didn’t play in Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators.

LA Kings suspend goalie prospect Patrik Bartosak after assault arrest

The Kings on Wednesday said they “suspended the contract of goaltender Patrik Bartosak” after he was arrested and charged with an alleged assault on his girlfriend in Manchester, N.H., on Monday. Bartosak faces one felony assault charge and several other misdemeanor charges, including assault, threatening and stalking. The Kings said in a statement:

“This morning our club suspended Patrik Bartosak for his actions resulting in his arrest in Manchester, N.H., on (Monday). We take this matter very seriously. Our response in this matter reflects our extreme disappointment, particularly given the programs we have instituted internally and the commitment our organization has made to educating our players on the prevention of domestic violence. This in the first step in an ongoing process as we continue to gather information related to this incident and monitoring the legal proceedings.”

The statement referred to a number of counseling efforts the Kings made during training camp in September, some of which are ongoing, after the arrest of three players during a nine-month span last season. Among those arrested was defenseman Slava Voynov, who served a 45-day jail sentence on a domestic violence charge last summer. Voynov severed ties with the Kings and the NHL and returned to his native Russia rather than face a deportation hearing.

Kings prospect Patrik Bartosak charged in domestic assaults, threats in Manchester, N.H.

Kings goaltending prospect Patrik Bartosak waived arraignment Tuesday in a Manchester, N.H., court on domestic violence charges, according to a report on the Union Leader newspaper’s website. Bartosak, a 22-year-old from the Czech Republic who was recently re-assigned from the Kings’ AHL team in Ontario to their ECHL club in Manchester, faces a total of 12 charges, including a felony second-degree assault charge that he attempted to strangle his girlfriend Monday afternoon at a New Hampshire residence.

Bartosak is free on a $10,000 bond.

A hearing on the felony charge was set for Dec. 16.

A trial date for assault, threatening and stalking misdemeanors was set for Jan. 28.

The Kings are aware of the situation and said in a statement, “This is a very serious matter and these allegations represent a type of behavior we do not stand for. We will continue to gather information and comment further when appropriate.”

Slava Voynov, a former Kings defenseman, served 45 days in jail after a domestic violence conviction earlier this year. Voynov returned to his native Russia rather than face a deportation hearing. The Kings were set to terminate his contract on the day Voynov announced he would self-deport to Russia.

The NHL has not lifted its indefinite suspension of Voynov.

In addition to Voynov, two other Kings players, Mike Richards and Jarret Stoll, were arrested and charged with drug possession this year. Richards’ contract was terminated during the off-season and he faces a hearing in an Emerson, Manitoba, court Dec. 8. Stoll’s felony arrest in Las Vegas was later reduced to a misdemeanor and he signed with the New York Rangers as a free agent during the summer.

Bartosak is alleged to have grabbed the unnamed 20-year-old woman and pushed her against a wall, chocked her, grabbed her chest, punched her two times and slapped her in the face and legs. He also is alleged to have told her, “If you don’t have anything to say I’m going to kill you. I’m going to punch you in the face if you don’t say anything. I hope you know I’m going to knock you out and put you to sleep before I leave.”

Later, he allegedly sent text messages to the woman, saying he was coming to her place of employment at the Mall of New Hampshire. He is alleged to have been waiting for her in the parking lot when she left work.

Ducks recall defenseman Shea Theodore from AHL team in San Diego

The Ducks recalled 20-year-old defenseman Shea Theodore from their American Hockey League team in San Diego on Tuesday. It appeared Theodore’s promotion from the Gulls to the Ducks was precautionary, what with Josh Manson out sick for Monday’s 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Korbinian Hozler took Manson’s spot in the lineup. Theodore has yet to make his NHL debut and general manager Bob Murray said last spring he wouldn’t rush the top prospect.

Theodore has one goal and eight points with a plus-4 defensive rating in 13 games for the Gulls. Overall, he has played in only 26 games in parts of two seasons in the AHL after the Ducks drafted him in the first round in 2013 (26th overall). He was the Defenseman of the Year in 2014-15 while playing for Seattle in the junior-level Western Hockey League.

Ducks winger Nick Ritchie to make NHL debut vs. Hurricanes

DUCKS AT HURRICANES

Faceoff: 4 p.m.

TV/Radio: Prime / 830-AM

Update: Ducks rookie Nick Ritchie is set to make his NHL debut Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes. He skated with center Ryan Kesler and right wing Chris Stewart during the morning skate, according to reports from Raleigh, N.C. “Obviously they’re both pretty good players in this league,” Ritchie told reporters. “It’s going to be a pretty good opportunity for me tonight. I’m just going to play my game and, hopefully, I can help those guys.”

The Ducks recalled Ritchie and Michael Sgarbossa from their AHL team in San Diego on Saturday, hoping the Gulls’ one-two scoring punch can bolster their wonky offense going into a four-game trip that begins today in Raleigh, N.C. The 19-year-old Ritchie has nine goals in 12 games while playing on a line with Sgarbossa. Ritchie was a first-round draft pick in 2014 (10th overall). The Ducks have points in six of their last seven games to improve to 5-8-4 after a 1-7-2 start to the season. They were fifth in the Pacific Division at the start of business around the league Sunday. They also were last in the NHL with only 29 goals in 17 games. Corey Perry leads the Ducks with five goals and 11 points.

Carolina is 6-9-2 after a loss Saturday to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Kings coach Darryl Sutter talks about defending the Oilers

Here’s some of what Kings coach Darryl Sutter had to say after a 4-3 victory Saturday over the Edmonton Oilers: “We weren’t that sharp in the middle part of the game. They’re such a good skating team. They got some open ice on us. Two of their goals were rush goals. The (Taylor) Hall goal, the defense didn’t make good reads on it. … Our defense had a tough time handling them tonight.”

Sutter referred to Hall’s goal that made it 3-all at 15:10 of the third period.
