LA Kings place defenseman Matt Greene on IR with upper-body injury

The Kings on Friday placed defenseman Matt Greene on IR with an upper-body injury (retroactive to Oct. 13). He’s eligible to return to the active roster to join the team for it’s trip to play the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday and the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. But it might be a little while before he’s sound enough to play.

“He’s skating, but until he has full contact … ,” Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. “IR’s no big deal. Technically, he could play (Friday). If he was on (IR earlier), he could have been activated. You go on the road and it frees a spot up. That’s all that does.”

Ducks re-assign defenseman Shea Theodore to San Diego of AHL

The Ducks on Monday re-assigned 20-year-old defenseman Shea Theodore to their AHL team in San Diego after recalling him Saturday. Theodore didn’t play in Sunday’s 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild and has yet to make his NHL debut. He has one assist and a plus 3 defensive rating in two games with the Gulls so far this season. The Ducks recalled him because of injuries to defensemen Clayton Stoner (lower body) and Simon Despres (head).

In addition, the Kings reached the NHL’s 23-player roster limit by assigning defensemen Vincent LoVerde and Jamie McBain to their new AHL team in Ontario. LoVerde and McBain also were placed on waivers Monday, but they cleared Tuesday at 9 a.m., and will join the Reign.
