LA Kings stat of the night
The Kings’ 3-2 victory Thursday over the Canadiens extended their winning streak over the Canadiens to three consecutive games, which ordinarily wouldn’t be worth talking about. But, according to research by the Kings’ crack media relations department, it’s their longest winning streak over Montreal in franchise history.
The Kings also swept the season series from the Canadiens for only the third time since beginning play in the NHL for the 1967-68 season. The Kings were 2-0 against Montreal this season, 2-0 against the Canadiens in 2013-14 and 1-0 against them in 2000-01.

Their last nine-game point streak is their longest since a 13-game streak Nov. 29-Dec. 28, 2013 (11-0-2).

Left wing Dwight King won his first faceoff of the season, setting up Jeff Carter’s tying goal in the Kings’ 2-1 victory Thursday over the Edmonton Oilers at Staples Center. Of course, King was in the circle only because Carter had been tossed for an infraction. It was only King’s 10 career faceoff win against 13 losses. He was 0 for 3 on draws going into the game.

Kings (bad) stat of the day
The Kings were the NHL’s most-penalized team, as of Tuesday morning. They have taken 34 penalties in five games for a total of 99 penalty minutes and an average of 19.8 minutes per game. That’s a real momentum-breaking statistic, no matter how you look at it, and one reason for their 2-3-0 start to the season.
