LA Kings recall defenseman Kevin Gravel from the Ontario Reign of the AHL

The Kings recalled defenseman Kevin Gravel from the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League. Gravel’s addition likely means Alec Martinez won’t play in Game 2 of the Kings’ first-round playoff series against the San Jose Sharks. Martinez played 11:43 in the first two periods of Game 1 on Thursday, a 4-3 victory by the Sharks. He didn’t play in the third period, however.

LA Kings assign forward Nic Dowd, defenseman Kevin Gravel to Ontario of AHL

The Kings on Tuesday assigned forward Nic Dowd and defenseman Kevin Gravel to the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League. Neither was expected to play with the Kings during the Stanley Cup playoffs. They will be counted on with the Reign during the upcoming Calder Cup playoffs, however.

Ducks reassign defenseman Shea Theodore to San Diego of AHL

The Ducks returned rookie defenseman Shea Theodore to the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League on Saturday. He had three goals and seven points and a plus-7 defensive rating in his first 17 games in the NHL this season. He made his debut Dec. 29 against the Flames in Calgary. He also had eight goals and 31 points in 47 games with the Gulls this season.

Ducks defensemen Kevin Bieksa, Sami Vatenen questionable to play against Devils

Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said Sunday that injured defensemen Kevin Bieksa and Sami Vatanen were “questionable” to play Monday against the Devils at the Honda Center. Korbinian Holzer and Clayton Stoner will replace them if they can’t play against New Jersey

Bieksa suffered a lower-body injury during a 5-2 defeat Friday against the St. Louis Blues. Vatanen was forced from Wednesday’s loss to the Colorado Avalanche because of an upper-body injury. Boudreau wasn’t sure when they might play again, but called them “day to day.”

“I don’t think either of them is long term at all,” Boudreau said. “I think it’s a short term thing and, hopefully, they’ll both be back before the end of the week. Right now, it’s just day to day.”

Boudreau said he didn’t know if there was any consideration made to recalling Shea Theodore or Brandon Montour from the Ducks’ American Hockey League team in San Diego.

 

 

The Ducks trade Patrick Maroon to the Oilers for Martin Gernat and a fourth-round draft pick

The Ducks on Monday parted ways with left wing Patrick Maroon, sending him to the Edmonton Oilers at the trade deadline. They received defenseman Martin Gernat and a fourth-round draft pick in exchange for the left wing. Gernat had three points, all assists, in 22 games with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League this season. He’s expected to be assigned to San Diego of the AHL.

Maroon had four goals and 13 points in 56 games with the Ducks.

Ducks send Tim Jackman and seventh-round draft pick to Blackhawks for Corey Tropp

The Ducks acquired right wing Corey Tropp from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for right wing Tim Jackman and a seventh-round selection in the 2017 draft. Tropp is expected to be assigned to the Ducks’ American Hockey League team in San Diego. Jackman was playing with the Gulls for most of the season.

With Anze Kopitar hurting, LA Kings recall forward Michael Mersch from the Ontario Reign of the AHL

The Kings recalled forward Michael Mersch from the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League in advance of Saturday’s game against the Nashville Predators. The Kings were already without winger Marian Gaborik, who could be sidelined for the rest of the regular season because of a knee injury, but then center Anze Kopitar was forced from a 2-1 overtime loss Thursday to the St. Louis Blues because of a lower-body injury. Kopitar played only in the first period.

Kopitar’s status was termed day to day, but Saturday isn’t expected to be his day.

The 23-year-old Mersch had one goal and three points in 15 games with the Kings earlier this season..He also had 19 goals and 28 points in 34 games with the Reign before he was recalled. He led the team in goals and was 10th in the league. He also had a plus-6 defensive rating and 22 penalty minutes.

LA Kings assign goalie Peter Budaj to the Ontario Reign of the AHL

The Kings on Wednesday assigned goaltender Peter Budaj to the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League. They recalled him on an emergency basis last Thursday in order to replace an injured Jonathan Quick. Quick is sound again after suffering an lower-body injury and missing three games. Budaj appeared in one game, a 5-4 overtime victory Friday over the New York Rangers. It was his first victory in the NHL since April 4, 2014 while with the Montreal Canadiens.
