Ducks sign goaltender John Gibson to three-year, $6.9-millon extension

The Ducks signed backup goaltender John Gibson to a three-season contract extension worth an average of $2.3 million per year, another move by general manager Bob Murray designed to avoid salary-cap issues down the road. Starting goalie Frederik Andersen is signed only through the end of the 2015-16 season.

Gibson, 22, was 13-8-0 with one shutout and a 2.60 goals-against average last season. He served as Andersen’s backup in his first full season with the Ducks. Overall, he is 16-8-0 with two shutouts and a 2.45 goals-against average in 26 games in the NHL.
