Dana Delaney shakes things up on "Desperate Housewives"

If you've been watching "Desperate Housewives" this season, then you already know that the first two episodes of the season revealed a new world order on Wisteria Lane with the arrival of Katherine Mayfair played by two-time Emmy winner Dana Delany.
Katherine is going toe-to-toe with domestic diva Bree Van De Kamp (Marcia Cross) for pie-baking supremacy and next week, confronts Gabby (Eva Longoria) with a few zingers. The character gives a real lift to the series, creating some new dynamics and in the hands of Delany, the character should continue to make things real interesting.
I caught up with her last night at the all-star "Les Girls" benefit for the National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund and told Dana how terrific she has been.
"Can you imagine fighting over a pie?" she said, laughing. "It felt very natural going on the show. There's a lot of layers to Katherine. There's a lot going on there. It's fun, it's so fun for me to be able to do both the comedy and the drama and mix it up. I actually I started in comedy but nobody knows that. When I did 'China Beach,' people took me so seriously so it was hard to get away from that image."
"China Beach," the acclaimed ABC drama that ran for three seasons before being cancelled by ABC, was a long time ago and Delany has tried series television twice since then with "Pasadena" on FOX and last season's "Kidnapped" on NBC.
"I gotta say, it's nice to be on a hit. I've never actually been on a hit before. I've done a lot of work that I'm proud of but not a top 10 show. That's a nice feeling, to know you have a job to go to for awhile. 'China Beach' got the great reviews, but we didn't get the numbers like this show does."
