Giacomo comes alive

Well, the colt that some predicted might never win another race looked pretty darn impressive in winning the San Diego Handicap on Saturday at Del Mar. Mike Smith rode the 4-year-old Giacomo, the 50-1 winner of the 2005 Kentucky Derby, with perfection.
Granted, the gray colt didn't beat a stellar field, but it was a win and perhaps this guy is starting to put it all together.

Can he beat Lava Man in the Pacific Classic? Well, how much did Lava Man's gallant effort in the Hollywood Gold Cup take out of the veteran gelding? Giacomo will go into the race a fresh horse, and Lava Man was all out to win the Gold Cup. Hmmm. Could be a very interesting race, and perhaps Lava Man will be a very beatable odds-on favorite. Circle Aug. 20 on your calendar. It should be a heckuva horse race.
