I’m looking at three races today with interest. One of my horses will go off at decent odds, but I’m afraid two others will go postward too low for me to bet.
In the first, I like Alex Solis on a 4-year-old colt named Budha. He’s gone postward at 7-2 and 5-2 in his two lone U.S. starts and regains the services of Solis after Jon Court had the mount last time when he had a wide trip. Solis and trainer Ron McAnally are good together and you should get better odds on this guy than in his first two starts. He’s 9-2 on the morning line.
Artaxman has the speed to break on top and go gate to wire in the third race under Court. Court and trainer Doug O’Neill win 18 percent of the time when they team up and this 3-year-old gelding is dropping today after racing five-wide in his last at Del Mar. Proceed with caution, however. He’s 7-5 on the morning line and figures to go postward at even money or less. Too low for my taste, but I think he’s a good single in a pick three.
In the fourth, Warren’s Queen has a big shot to help Clifford Sise break out of a mini slump that saw him suffer through a disappointing Del Mar campaign. But he’s 5-2 on the morning line and doesn’t deserve less than 3-1. A good play in the pick six, pick three and exotics, but I’d be leery of betting win money on him at less than 3-1.
Good luck today!
