Interesting Del Mar card for Saturday
Two solid stakes races today at Del Mar, including one of the toughest races of the meet to dissect -- the Grade II Palomar Handicap for fillies and mares. Good luck picking a winner in that race. I really think six of the 12 horses have a chance, including my selection -- the Bobby Frankel-trained Amorama. But it would not surprise me to see one of five other distaffers -- Three Degrees, Island Fashion, Sharp Lisa, Shining Energy or Mea Domina -- find the winner's circle. I like Brother Derek in the El Cajon. Dan Hendricks can have him ready to fire off a near four-month layoff. If he's ready to go, which I think he will be, there's no horse in the race as good as the Benchmark colt. Alex Solis will have Brother Derek sitting just off the pace-setting Da Stoops and then take charge in the stretch.
Betting-wise, I like Dakota Lass in the third. Blinkers go on and I think Victor Espinoza will be sitting on or very close to the lead. She's my best bet of the day. I like Lady Truffles in the sixth, with maybe a smaller play on Light and Magic in the same race. Take a long look at Pachiro in the ninth and if you play a late pick four, I think the nightcap is wide open. Better include Tumbaga, Transduction Gold, T. H. Praise, Twice Unbridled and A Big To'do in the 10th.
Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice hit in the 10th race! Hope you had a few bucks on that 34-1 longshot winner!
I always have a few bucks on horses I like that go off at 34-1 ... nothing as good as that running today, though. Oh well. Horse players live to play another day.
