Antongeorgi loses bug

| | Comments (0) |

Jockey William Antongeorgi III, seventh in the Santa Anita jockey standings with 12 victories, lost his five-pound apprentice weight allowance after Sunday's races and begins riding Wednesday as a journeyman. He is undeterred.

"My career is going well and I can't complain," the 19-year-old Long Island native told Ed Golden of the Santa Anita publicity staff. "I've always looked at the bug year as your year to learn. When you lose it, you have to keep going forward and stay with it. All the top riders are here and they had to lose their apprentice allowance, too. Everyone always does. That's the way I've always looked at it. I've lost the weight allowance, but not my talent."
With that sort of philosophy, Antongeorgi should fare just fine.
