Gomez on record winning pace

| | Comments (0) |

Santa Anita's leading jockey, Garrett Gomez, has the opportunity to set a single-season record for most wins at the Arcadia meet if he continues at his current pace. The record is 138, set by Laffit Pincay, Jr. during the 1970-71 meet. Gomez has 44 victories through the first 31 days of this 85-day meeting.

“He’s in a zone and everybody respects him, Gomez's agent, Ron Anderson, told Santa Anita's Ed Golden. “He seems to be making all the right choices (in the races) and I’ve been lucky enough to make a lot of the right choices, too. The combination of the two makes him a dangerous commodity. He’s awfully, awfully good. But as far as breaking records, you’ve got to be real lucky. You can’t keep winning 10, 11 races a week like he’s done a couple times. It’s just not in the cards, but we’ll see what happens.
