Cushion Track lands positive reviews

| | Comments (0) |

The debut of Santa Anita's new $10 million-plus Cushion Track went smoothly Wednesday. Two of the first three races run over the synthetic surface were won in gate-to-wire fashion and the third was won by the horse that was second until the turn for home. Then, the final three were won by horses that came from well off the pace.

As Santa Anita president Ron Charles put it, it appears that Santa Anita's new track is a bit faster than the Cushion Track across town at Hollywood Park and much faster than Del Mar's Polytrack surface that debuted this summer. Of course, it's still early, but after the first day of the Oak Tree meet it looks like this is a track that is going to play pretty fair. We'll see.
