Hollywood Park opens today

Hollywood Park begins its 32-day autumn meet today under a cloud of uncertainty. How much longer will the Track of Lakes and Flowers be around? Well, the owner -- Bay Meadows Land Co. -- is committed to racing only through next year's autumn meet. Beyond that, who knows?

But new stables -- Todd Pletcher, Christophe Clement and Darley Stables -- all have a sizable number of horses here for the Hollywood Park meet, which is highlighted by the Turf Festival on Thanksgiving Weekend.
In addition, top-notch jockeys Rafael Bejarano (pictured) and Julien Leparoux are expected to arrive sometime later this month to make an already tough rider colony that much tougher. Don't forget, Garrett Gomez is here through most of the Santa Anita winter meet and Patrick Valenzuela is expected to join the fray on Nov. 14.
Despite the uncertainty, this looks like an interesting meet coming up.
