Santa Anita may get weather break

| | Comments (0) |

Long-range weather forecasts through next week are favorable for Santa Anita, with a 30 percent chance of rain Sunday the only serious threat against track officials' hopes to begin maintenance on its Cushion Track that hopefully will conclude in time for racing to resume Feb. 8 and solve the drainage problem.

The forecast on weather.com calls for mostly dry weather. Santa Anita will be dark Monday through Thursday (Tuesday and Wednesday are regularly scheduled dark days) as track superintendent Richard Tedesco and his crew mix in the Pro-Ride polymer and fibers into the Cushion Track. Next week's cancellations will bring the season total to nine -- one more than Santa Anita had total in its first 70 years. Incredible.
