More winners at Santa Anita?

We did pretty well yesterday, giving out Dine At Nine at $11 in the first and Surf Cat at $7 in the San Carlos Handicap at Santa Anita. Let's try again with the following horses ....

Second -- I like Yankelevitz with Martin Garcia up. He was 3-wide last out and is dropping through the clouds from $25,000 down to $12,500. If he's sound, he'll give a good account of himself. Trainer Jorge Periban and Garcia win at a 27-percent clip (4 of 15) when they team up.

Fourth -- Shawklit Sundae won for $25,000 at Golden Gate, ran third for $25,000 at Santa Anita and is now dropping in for $20,000 today. The $25,000 at Santa Anita was a stronger race than the Golden Gate heat, so he's probably facing closer today to what he beat up north. Aaron Gryder and Brian Koriner are TOUGH when they team up. Proceed with caution as far as odds go, but this 4-year-old filly looks tough here.

Fifth -- Great Siege is my best bet of the day. Good trainer (Hofmans), great jockey (Bejarano) and the 9-2 morning-line price is just about right. This 3-year-old son of Rock of Gibraltar is stretching out for the first time after a good debut sprinting on the old Cushion Track and I think he's going to be tough to beat here.

Seventh -- Veils de Fleur will be middle of the pack coming down the hill and Jose Valdivia, Jr. (remember Dine At Nine) will have her perfectly positioned turning for home. Valdivia is at his best on the grass and this 5-year-old mare looks spotted for a top effort.

Tenth -- If you're chasing that huge pick-six carryover today, consider including Golden Volponi, Topper's Treasure and Warren's Player on your ticket. I know, I know. Golden Volponi is 30-1 on the morning line. Am I nuts? Well, some people thought I was nuts when fellow SGVN handicapper Ray Nelson and myself played Peace Pledge in last Sunday's nightcap. You might remember him. He paid $165.20, I believe. Never be afraid to play a horse at high odds if you like it.

Good luck!!!!
