Santa Anita Racing — 1/03/2009

We’re sinking faster than my 401k last year, but not to worry. We couldn’t even get an 8-5 shot (Cat Brulay) home first in the sixth. I’ve started slowly like this in the past before catching fire with long-shot picks. The nice thing about a long-shot system is this — you can fall $500 or $600 behind, then tab one 40-1 shot and suddenly be $200 in the black. Patience is the key here. If you have a system you believe in, more times than not it will eventually deliver.

  1. Utabn has a big chance in Race 5.

I’m going with a big price in the featured Monrovia Handicap in Christina’s Heat. This mare always runs her best and though she’s a bit outclassed in this field, that price of 12/1 will drift up a ton and think that down-the-hill effort 3 back gives her an outside look at a board placing.

  2. I sure do agree with you about Christiana’s Heat in the feature. She might not have the class some of the others do, but her Beyer speed figures are right there. I think La Tee has a big shot in there as well.

  3. Wow Art, I thought we were home in the feature. Doubt we’ll ever see 18/1 on her down the hillside turf course ever again, Tough beat (also had her hooked up in the late DD with the Mitchell winner). :(

  4. Those are the worst type of beats. I can take losing a toughie at 2-1 or 5-2, but when you lose like that at 18-1, well, the racing gods are just not very kind sometimes.
