Midway through the 2009 season, I know my early pick for Horse of the Year. I'll reveal it in my Friday column. But I want to know who you pick:

Rachel Alexandra hands down. Undefeated in 2009 5-0-0-0, Wins in the Grade 1 Preakness (vs the boys), Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks by a city block, the Grade 2 Fantasy, and the Grade 2 Fairgrounds Oaks.

Well Armed has won 1 race, the Dubai World Cup and was beaten in lesser races in his other 2 this year.

Zenyatta has had 1 race in 2009 and that was basicly a match race.

Mine That Bird did win the Kentucky Derby (but wouldve been handled by a fresh Rachel Alexandra), and did lose to her in the Preakness. Failed in the BORDERLAND and Sunland Derby both ungraded races. A win in the slop, and a second to an undefeated filly that has won 2 Grade 1's and 2 Grade 2's in '09 isnt enough for the award.

As unprecedented as it would be for a 3 yr old filly to get HOY honors, your question was a vote "Today." Rachel should have that poll unanimously.
