It was Secretariat who put the biggest exclamation mark on his Triple Crown, winning the Belmont Stakes by an amazing 31 lengths in 1973. Contrast that with Affirmed's sweep five years later, when his margin of victory over Alydar kept getting smaller until he beat Alydar by a nose in one of the most thrilling Belmont Stakes ever.
Watching Seretariat pull steadily away from the field in the '73 Belmont Stakes was, well, just indescribable.

Yes, I remember the day well. Unfortunately, I was a huge fan of Sham, who had the misfortune of being born the same year as Secretariat. Big Red was a monster that day, turning in without a doubt the most dominating, electrifying performance in the history of the Triple Crown. I can only wistfully dream about what Sham might have done that year if not for running up against the great Secretariat.
