* Zenyatta will be flown to Kentucky on Dec. 6 to begin a breeding career at Lane's End Farm, one day after Hollywood Park honors the two-time Eclipse Award champion between races. The 6-year-old Street Cry mare grazed outside her barn Sunday morning as about 25 fans admired and photographed her.

* Dakota Phone, the only California-based horse to win a Breeders' Cup race, will return to the track Saturday in the $100,000 Native Diver Handicap at Hollywood Park. Dakota Phone won the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile on Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs at 37-1 odds. "He's ready to go," said Dan Ward, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer's assistant.

* Trainer Doug O'Neill returned to work Saturday morning after undergoing an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday. "On Wednesday night, I thought I had a bellyache and it turned out I had a bad appendix," O'Neill joked. "I went to St. John's Hospital at Santa Monica at 8 p.m. for the surgery and was released at 8 a.m. Thursday morning." O'Neill said he watched football on television for two days before returning to his barn.

* A pair of Southern California-based trainers are busy either celebrating milestones or preparing to savor them. Vladimir Cerin celebrated birthday No. 56 Friday by saddling the 1,000th winner of his career when Cigar Man won the All-American Stakes at Golden Gate Fields. He came back with victory No. 1,001 when Derrick Do won Sunday's first race at Hollywood Park under Patrick Valenzuela. Hall of Famer Bob Baffert is one victory shy of No. 2,000 after the talented Alcindor won Sunday's eighth race in easy fashion.

* Victor's Cry, 11-1 upset winner of Saturday's Citation Handicap at Hollywood Park, will be pointed to a turf stakes at Santa Anita, according to trainer Eoin Harty.
