Any Archies out there?

The LA Times has an interesting article out about American Idol, and in particular, David Archuleta. The fans and judges have anointed the boy wonder as the show's front-runner. And his fans call themselves "Archies."

There's debate among critics and bloggers over David's authenticity. Is he manufactured? Is his aw-shucks persona an act? And is the light in his eyes real?

I have three questions:
1. Is vocal paralysis a real ailment?
2. If he's so good, why hasn't he "made it" already?
3. Why does he breath so loudly?
