Former SBVC kicker earns preseason honor

Former San Bernardino Valley College football standout Mike Langston has been named to the Division II 2010 preseason All-American second team by the Sporting news.

Langston, out of Ramona High School in Riverside, handles all the kicking duties for Dixie State in St. George, Utah.

Langston, who will be a senior, finished seventh in the nation in punting, averaging 41.6 per kick on 70 attempts. He had 14 punts downed inside the 20 and 12 for more than 50 yards.

He also converted nine of 12 field goal tries and 21 of 27 extra points.

Coyote men’s soccer team earns national ranking

The Cal State San Bernardino men’s soccer team is ranked 25th in the Preseason NSCAA/Adidas Division II rankings.

Coming off the best season in head coach Noah Kooiman’s career the Coyotes start out where they ended the 2009 season at No. 25. The team returns six starters, including two NCAA Division II All-West Region selections in local products Obi Agwu and Albert Cabrera.
 
CSUSB went 15-6-1 en route to the first NCAA postseason appearance since 1991. The Coyotes finished second in the CCAA South Division before bowing out to Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A. in the CCAA and NCAA Tournaments.
 
CSU Dominguez Hills debuts at No. 4 while Cal State L.A. is No. 14. Sonoma State is No. 22.
 
Cal State San Bernardino kicks off its season Sept. 2 against St. Martins (Wash.) in Phoenix, Ariz.
