Foothill Conference to come down to final game

The Foothill Conference has always been one of the top conferences in the state when it comes to men’s basketball. So it  should be no surprise that first place will be up for grabs on the final day.

Right now it’s Chaffey (18-7, 11-2) in first place with San Bernardino Valley (16-11, 10-3) and Barstow (22-5, 10-3) tied for second. On Saturday Barstow will be at Chaffey and SBVC at College of the Desert.
So it’s this simple . . . Chaffey wins and it is the outright champion. Who would have thought? If Barstow wins and SBVC does as expected and takes care of COD, then it’s a three-way tie.
The scenario got interesting on Wednesday when Barstow upset SBVC 72-70 in overtime. It was a ragged game on both sides. There were a couple of dust-ups in the first half, both of which resulted in double technical fouls.
But SBVC caused its own problems. It went 10 for 25 from the free throw line with a couple of huge misses in the last minute of regulation. That won’t get it done against a middle tier team, let alone a good one.
Barstow also won the rebounding battle 49-64. That statistic could have been different had SBVC coach Quincy Brewer not benched Aaron Moore, his second-leading scorer and leading rebounder. It was another one of those disciplinary issues. Give Brewer credit for sticking to his principles no matter what the importance of the game.
Brewer said after the game Moore will not play Saturday either.
Barstow was led by Daqwuan Brown with 17 pointsand 11 rebounds.Jeffery Legree had16, six of those in overtime. He also had six assists and two steals. Cheikh Fall had 11 points and 10 boards.
For SBVC Keon Pledger tallied 22 points. David Rawlinson added 16.
