Cal Poly Pomona women face tough draw

The Cal Poly Pomona women are busily preparing for their first trip to the Elite Eight in nine years. The Broncos (29-4) will face Northwest Missouri State (27-4) in the last of the four quarterfinals at the St. Joseph Civic Arena in St. Jospeh, Mo. on Tuesday.

The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. Pacific time.

The Bearcats have all five starters averaging double figures. They have a 6-foot-4 post to go with a 6-footer so they will have a huge size advantage. But they have little on the bench so the Broncos have the edge in depth.

Northwest Missouri is ranked No. 19 and will be making its first trip to the Elite Eight in school history.

The winner of that games advances to the semifinal where it will play the winner of the quarterfinal between No. 1 Arkansas Tech (30-2) and No. 3 Michigan Tech (29-2).

The other half of the draw has Metro State (30-2) playing Shaw (24-11) and Bentley (28-4) facing Clayton State (32-1). Shaw was a No. 8 seed and won its region which tells me that is likely a very weak region or that team is on a serious roll. Probably a little bit of both..

The Broncos will leave on Sunday morning.
