Coaches poll out in CCAA women’s soccer

UC San Diego and Cal State Stanislaus have
been selected to win their respective divisions in the California
Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) women’s soccer season in a poll
of the coaches.

The Tritons are also tabbed to claim the CCAA
title after receiving four of the coaches’ votes. Four other
institutions received votes for the title including Cal State L.A with
th

ree votes, followed by Sonoma State and defending CCAA conference champion Cal State Stanislaus with two votes apiece.

Cal State Stanislaus, with 53 points and five first-place votes, is
picked to capture the division title in the North. Sonoma State, which
received three first-place votes, garnered 51 points to finish second in
the voting.

UC San Diego battled Cal State L.A. in the poll,
but the Tritons held as the favorite for the South Division title with
55 points and seven first-place votes. The Golden Eagles came in at
second with 51 points while receiving four first-place votes.

Cal State
San Bernardino, which tallied 36 points and earned a first-place vote,
finished third, followed by Cal State Dominguez Hills (35), Cal Poly
Pomona (24) and San Francisco State (15).

The 2012 CCAA Championship Tournament will be hosted by Cal State Dominguez Hills Nov. 2-4.

Four CCAA teams are ranked in the National Soccer Coaches Association
of America (NSCAA) Division II Top 25 Preseason Poll. Chico State opens
the season ranked No. 4, Cal State L.A. is ranked No. 13, UC San Diego
is ranked No. 18 and Cal State Stanislaus is No. 25.
