Sagehens player honored

Senior defensive back Duncan Hussey of Pomona-Pitzer was named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 team by the district’s sports information directors.

Hussey is now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America honors, which will be announced later this month. He will have a chance to give the Sagehens Academic All-Americans for two years in a row, after James Lambert earned first-team honors last year.
Hussey plays free safety and is a two-year captain, although he missed last year with an injury. He was named to D3football Team Of Week and the Beyond College Sports Network after playing both ways, tallying 13 catches for 218 yards and 3 TDs at wide receiver, and five tackles a sack on D vs Occidental on October 27, when he nearly rallied the Sagehens to the win in the annual Battle of the Drum.
The three receiving touchdowns tied a school record, while his 218 yards ranks seventh, numbers which he achieved in only the second game he played wide receiver. On defense, he had a season-high nine tackles against Whittier and added seven against Redlands and Menlo.
Hussey majors in molecular biology and has nearly a 4.0 grade point average (3.95). He is a senior academically, but plans to return next year for his final season of eligibility.
Hussey and the Sagehens close out the 2012 regular season with a home game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the annual Peace Pipe Game.
