Dibbini gets nod at Cal Poly Pomona

Cal Poly Pomona has selected Mike Dibbini as its next head coach in women’s soccer. He succeeds Isabelle Harvey who accepted the same position at CCAA rival Cal State Los Angeles.

This is a great hire. Dibbini returns to Southern California after eight years heading the men’s and women’s programs at Kansas Wesleyan which he turned into an NAIA power.

Dibbini, 36, knows the SoCal landscape quite well. He’s a native of Palmdale and has recruited Califorrnia heavily in his tenure in Kansas. In 2012 He had 48 players (men’s and women’s team’s combined) on his roster, with 16 of those from San Bernardino or Riverside county.

Knowing the area will be a definitely plus. This biggest chore will likely getting up to speed on the NCAA Division II regulations which are far more strict than those at the NAIA level.

He also takes over a program with talent there. The cupboard is not empty.
