Former Cal State soccer star lands D3 head coaching gig

Former Cal State San Bernardino soccer star Unity Beddingfield has been named NCAA Division III Sarah Lawrence College Women’s Soccer Head Coach. Beddingfield will take the helm of the Gryphons program in its first season as a varsity sport.

Beddingfield has over two decades of playing experience and has coached the sport for more than 10 seasons. Most recently, she comes to SLC after spending one year as head coach at NCAA Division II University of Hawaii-Hilo.

Beddingfield also served as assistant coach at San Bernardino Valley, where she helped the Wolverines to a 15-6-3 record in 2011. In addition, she completed a brief stint as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Cal State San Bernardino. There, her Coyotes went 3-0-2 during the spring season. Previously, she coached the Arroyo Valley High School team for seven years.

Beddingfield has seven years of experience in personal training and recreation. She graduated from CSUSB with bachelor’s degrees in exercise science and pedagogy.

As a player, Beddingfield was a varsity soccer, basketball and track athlete in high school. At Cal State San Bernardino, she was a three-year player and two-year starter, leading her 2009 squad in assists. After graduating, she spent two years playing for the Claremont Stars of the Women’s Premier Soccer League.

The school ,located in Bronxville, N.Y., competes in its inaugural varsity season this fall, having previously been a club team. The Gryphons will compete in the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference in 2013 before transitioning to Skyline Conference play in 2014.
