Redlands golfer earns academic honor

University of Redlands men’s junior golfer Jeremy Gomberg has been named to the Cleveland Golf/Srixon Division III Scholar All-America team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Those honored must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three years at the collegiate level, and participate in 50 percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete at the NCAA Championships.  In addition, the individual must have a stroke-average less than 79.0 in Division III while maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2.

Gomberg experienced a career year in 2012-13, compiling a 14-round average of 75.78.  He began the season by registering rounds of 72, 72, and 73 at the Cal State San Marcos Classic en route to helping the squad to nab a second-place finish at the Twin Oaks Golf Club in San Diego.  Also finishing strong at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships, he signed his scorecard with a 74 on the final day.  In addition, he was a member of the Bulldog squad that traveled to Destin, FL, for the NCAA Division III Championships, at which the U of R placed 16th nationally.
