Redlands tennis players honored

The the University of Redlands doubles duo of junior Jessica Ly and sophomore Ceara Sumida earned All-American honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

In order to earn this accolade, doubles competitors must earn a top-four seeding in the NCAA doubles tournament, advance to the second round of the NCAA doubles tournament, win the USTA/ITA Fall Regional Tournament, move onto the second round of the ITA National Small College Championships, or finish the season among the top 10 in the final rankings.

Ly and Sumida qualified for ITA All-America status by earning a final national doubles ranking of No. 9 in NCAA Division III.

Competing as the top doubles tandem, Ly and Sumida compiled a 21-4 overall record and finished as the third-best team in the ITA West-Region rankings.  Two important victories for the duo came at the NCAA Division III Team Championships, during which it defeated the No. 1 opponents from Whitman (WA) 9-8 (3) in the first round and then prevailed over the top counterparts form Pomona-Pitzer 8-3, in the second R\round.
