Chaffey’s Rosser wins Gold in 400 hurdles Columbia

Khaliffah Rosser of Chaffey College capped off a remarkable season by winning a gold medal in the 400 meter hurdles at the 2013 Pan American Junior World Championships at Medillon, Columbia.

Rosser, a product of Summit High School, posted a personal best and school record time of 50.75 in the championships race to defeat USA teammate Scottie Hearns, a freshman out of Mississippi State.

Hearns edged Rosser at the U.S. Junior Nationals in June.

Rosser ran a 51.44 in the semifinal. It was the fastest time of any athlete in that event.

“We knew if he executed each stage of his race he could win,” said Chaffey coach Blackman Ihem, who did not accompany Rosser to the event. “He’s such a great kid on and off the track, he makes it easy for his coaches.”

It was the last meet of the season for Rosser, who also won the state community college meet in May.

He didn’t have much of a break between major events. Ihem said following the state meet his athlete had 10 days of very “light active training.” Then it was on to preparation for the US meet.
