Broncos add new basketball player

Ray Ray

The Cal Poly Pomona men’s basketball program has added another player to the fold and he’s junior Ray Ray Chase. The 6-foo-t8 forward from San Antontion comes to the Broncos after two years at Fort Smith Community College in Kansas.

“Ray Ray brings a lot of experience and intensity to our inside game,” Coach¬† Greg Kamansky said. “He played in a tough conference at Fort Scott and he’ll be a good fit for our system.”

After helping the Reagan High School boys’ basketball team to plenty of success in Texas, Chase’s collegiate career started in the 2010-11 season at Southern¬† in Baton Rouge, La. With the Jaguars competing out of the Division I Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), Chase appeared in 27 games while averaging 2.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. In a late December game at LSU, he scored a season-high 10 points and added boards.

This past year as a sophomore at Fort Scott in Kansas, Chase averaged 8.1 points and 10.7 rebounds. He scored in double figures on nine occasions and set a season high of 20 in a game against Highland when he went 8-for-11 from the field.

Chase will be joining Broncos’ squad that is coming off a 28-3 season in 2012-13. CPP went 20-2 through conference play and captured a sweep of the California Collegiate Athletic Association regular season and tournament championships. The Broncos’ defense finished with a No. 1 national ranking.
