Coyotes picked top repeat – AGAIN!

The Cal State San Bernardino volleyball team has picked to repeat as CCAA champions. Not surprising. They have won seven in a row and nine of the last 11. And the won the Coyotes garnered last year came in a “rebuilding” season with a ton of freshmen.

The Coyotes totaled 115 points for the second year in a row and garnered seven first-place votes.  UC San Diego (107) was selected to finish second, followed by Sonoma State (105), Cal State L.A. (81), Chico State (74), Cal State Dominguez Hills (71), Cal State East Bay (60), San Francisco State (57), Cal Poly Pomona (52), Cal State Monterey Bay (33), Cal State Stanislaus (23) and Humboldt State (14).

The votes for San Diego and Sonoma are understandable, the one for Cal State Dominguez HiIlls, well that’s a bit dumbfounding.

The Coyotes were 24-9 overall, 19-3 in the CCAA last season and reached the NCAA West Regional final for an unprecedented 13th straight NCAA West Region final, losing to regional host, BYU-Hawaii.

The Coyotes, ranked 14th in the AVCA Top-25 coaches poll, open the season playing host to the Coyote Classic on Sept. 6-7. CSUSB begins tourney play against Fort Lewis State at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Fellow CCAA schools Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State L.A., UC San Diego and Sonoma State also are taking part in the tourney.
