How the locals fared in the minors

There were a number of former local college baseball standouts who just completed their seasons in the minors. Here’s a rundown on how they fared:

* Travis Taijeron (Cal Poly Pomona) Mets
Started the season at High-A Port St. Lucie (Florida State League). Hit .303 in 55 games, 33 runs scored, 20 doubles, 9 home runs, 27 RBI. Made mid-season All-Star team. Got promotion to Double-A Binghamton (Eastern) and hit .246 with 18 doubles, 14 home runs and 42 RBI there. Was named Player of the Week in the FSL twice. His team is in the playoffs.

*Aaron Brooks (Cajon HS/Cal State San Bernardino) Royals
Started at High-A Wilmington (Carolina League) and 2-3 with a 4.47 ERA in 10 starts, 56 1/3 innings. Then went 7-7 with a 4.17 ERA in 16 games (103 2/3 innings) at Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Got a Pitcher of the Week nod July 27.

* Ethan Chapman (Upland Chr./CS San Bernardino) Royals
Started season at Low- Lexington (South Atlantic) and hit .238 in 62 games, 25 runs scored, 18 stolen bases. Got promoted to High-A Wilmington (Carolina) and hit .251 in 68 games with 30 runs, 16 RBI and 14 stolen bases.

*Ryan Miller (San Bernardino Valley) Padres
Hit .245 in 43 games with the Short-A Eugene Emeralds (Norhtwest League). Got promoted and played three games with Low-A Fort Wayne Wizards (Midwest League).

* David Colvin (Pomona-Pitzer) Mariners
Was stellar out of the bullpen for the High Desert Mavericks (California League). Went 5-0 with a 2.34 ERA in 32 appearances (57 2/3 innings). Spent considerable time on the disabled list late in the season.

*Geoff Broussard (Alta Loma HS/Cal Poly Pomona) Phillies
Went 4-3 with a 3.20 ERA in 32 appearances (65 2/3 innings) for Lakewood (South Atlantic). Got late promotion to High-A Clearwater (Florida State League) where he threw 7 innings over 3 games.

* Brandon Cunniff (CS San Bernardino) Braves
Went 1-0 with 1.99 ERA in 20 games for the High-A Lynchburg Hillcats (Carolina). Was originally signed by the Florida Marlins.

*Matt Anderson (Chaffey College) Mariners
Went 4-6 with a 3.86 ERA in 16 starts (86 innings) for Clinton (Midwest League) before being promoted to High-A High Desert (California League). Finished 2-4 with a 5.90 ERA in 10 starts (50 innings) for the Mavericks.

*Jake Romanski (Norco HS/Chaffey/San Diego State) Red Sox
Played for the Short-A Lowell Spinners of the New York-Penn League and hit .233 in 20 games.
