Cal Poly Pomona standout gets CCAA weekly honor

Luis Najera

Cal Poly Pomona freshman Luis Najera Jr. has been named California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Week for Sept. 5-8.

In helping the Broncos to two wins last week in Northern California, Najera Jr. collected eight points with three goals and two assists.

A Tulare native, Najera played for the Fresno Fuego of the United Soccer League PDL in 2013. He received plenty of help from his CPP teammates this past week as the Broncos tallied nine assists while outscoring opponents 7-2.

Najera proved to be very efficient on offense, netting his three goals on just nine shots. He averaged 54.5 minutes in the road wins over Holy Names and Dominican.

The Broncos will return to action on Friday with a 4:30 p.m. matchup at nationally-ranked Cal State L.A.
