Former Cajon High School and Cal State San Bernardino baseball standout Aaron Brooks (2009-11) has bee honored as Kansas City Royals’ Double-A Pitcher of the Year.

Brooks split time this season between High-A Wilmington of the Carolina League and Double-A Northwest Arkansas of the Texas League.

Brooks, 23, will be invited to Futures Night at Kauffmann Stadium in Kansas City on Sept. 20, a night the Royals will play the Texas Rangers.

The Royals also will announce the organizational-wide Pitcher and Player of the Year awards after the World Series.

Brooks was promoted to the Naturals on June 4 and won three of his first four starts.

In 16 games in the Texas League Brooks went 7-7 record with a 4.17 ERA in 103 ⅔ innings. Brooks, a 9th-round draft selection by the Royals in 2011, also posted nine quality starts and tossed a complete-game shutout on July 24 for which he earned the league’s Pitcher of the week honor.

This marks the second straight year that a Coyote has been recognized by the Royals with an affiliate player of the year honor. Last season outfielder Ethan Chapman was the Royals’ Pioneer League (Idaho Falls) recipient.
