Cal Poly Pomona player lauded

BRandon COrtez

Cal Poly Pomona senior forward Brandon Cortez has been named the Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 23-29.

Cortez led the Broncos (5-2-1, 3-2-1)  to victories against Sonoma State and Humboldt State this past weekend at Kellogg Field. He managed four of the Broncos seven goals on the weekend, with two scored during Friday’s CCAA home opener against the Seawolves and another two in Sunday’s 4-1 victory over the Lumberjacks.

The Mission Viejo native scored the game winner in both contests while needing just eight shots for the four scores.

Cortez has doubled his career goal total and is now second among the CCAA leaders with five goals scored in 2013.
