Broncos get preseason ranking

After matching the school record for wins last year, the Cal Poly Pomona men’s basketball program is gaining national recognition through the first Division II preseason poll of 2013-14.

The D-II Bulletin has coach Greg Kamanksy’s team ranked sixth in the preseason poll. Of course that doesn’t mean much. These polls typically go on what you did last year and the Bronocs advanced to the second round of the NCAA postseason. It marked the program’s 10th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Also last season, the Broncos swept the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular season and tournament titles.

Local rival Cal State San Bernardino was in the “Other teams to watch” category. The Coyotes are likely to start four Division I transfers when they take the floor against UCLA Oct. 30.

Metro State is the Bulletin’s No. 1 team.
