Fundraiser planned in honor of local baseball star

Family, friends and former teammates of Jake Pilketon are coming together to honor the memory of the former baseball standout who starred at Rim of the World High School. San Bernardino Valley College and Cal State San Bernardino.

Pilkerton died in a traffic accident on Aug. 3 on his way back to his home in Lake Arrowhead, the day after he celebrated his 22nd birthday.

Those who played with Pilkerton in high school or at either college are invited to play in the Jake Pilkerton Charity Baseball game at 1 p.m. on Nov. 2 at San Manuel Stadium.  Gates will open at noon.

There is no admission charge but food, wristbands and T-shirts will be available for purchase with proceeds going to the Jake Pilkerton Trust which has been set up by the family.

Current and future donations to the trust fund will go toward scholarships, field maintenance costs and other program expenses at those schools.

Players should contact Matt Winn at (951) 807-9867, Matt Haney at (916) 508-2253 or Darren Dworak (626) 705-0203.

Volunteers are also needed to work the event as well as help cook food. Those people should call Catherine Figone at (760) 899-9473.
