Local soccer players honored

All-American Chelsey Jones

Three local players were among those named to the NCAA Division II All-West Region Women’s soccer team.

That trio consists of senior goalkeeper Chelsey Jones of Cal State San Bernardino and senior defender Kristin Mihara of Cal Poly Pomona who made the first team. Freshman Kianna Quarles of Cal State made the second team.

Jones, the 2013 CCAA Defensive Player of the Year, established four school records this fall with most shutouts in a season (13), career shutouts (21), victories in a season (12) and career victories (23).
Mihara played in each and every match through her Bronco career, totaling 73 games played. Through the middle portion of her time at CPP, she built an streak of playing every minute in 25-straight matches.

This past season, Mihara joined with fellow defenders Hannah Leu and Megan Kisslan in helping CPP allow just 17 goals through the team’s 18 matches.

Quarles led the Coyotes in scoring with seven goals and one assist. Earlier this month she was named the CCAA Freshman of the Year.
