Cal State’s Young named CCAA Player of Week

Andrew Young

Cal State San Bernardino’s Andrew Young has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Dec. 16-22.

The senior center led the Coyotes to a 3-0 week with wins over UC San Diego, No. 5 Western Washington and No. 19 Midwestern State.

The Monterey native scored a season-best 25 points after shooting six-for-10 from the field and 13-for-16 from the free throw line, while pulling down eight rebounds in the 78-69 win at UC San Diego.

To tip-off weekend play Young made 10-of-15 field goal attempts and four-of-five attempts from the line in a huge 99-91 defeat of two-time defending NCAA West Region Champion Vikings.

He wrapped up 2013 play with his third double digit performance, shooting 50 percent from both the field (6-for-12) and the free throw line (4-for-8).

For the week, Young averaged 21.7 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game, while totaling three steals, three assists, and two blocks.

Young and the Coyotes host Chico State on Jan. 3.
