Cal Poly Pomona’s Jada Blackwell gets third weekly accolade

Jada Blackwell

Jada Blackwell of the No. 16 Cal Poly Pomona women’s basketball team was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Player of the Week for the third time this season.

The junior center led the Broncos (17-3, 14-2) to a pair of home wins, extending CPP’s winning streak to five games.

On Thursday against Cal State Monterey Bay, the Etiwanda High School product scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Broncos cruised to a 58-38 win over the Otters. During that game, Blackwell went 7-for-10 at the free throw line.

On Saturday against Cal State East Bay, Blackwell recorded another double-double – her ninth of the 2013-14 campaign. She knocked down eight of her 10 free throw attempts to lead CPP to an overtime victory over the Pioneers.

While helping the Broncos maintain their three-win lead atop the conference standings, Blackwell ranks second in both scoring and rebounding among CCAA players. She’s posted averages of 16.7 points and 8.9 boards through the first 20 games of the season.
