Sagehens’ Simon Rosenbaum named national baseball player of week

Sophomore first baseman Simon Rosenbaum of Pomona-Pitzer has been named the first National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III Player of the Week for games through March 2.

He was also selected to the D3Baseball.com National Team of the Week.

Rosenbaum led the Sagehens to a doubleheader sweep of Redlands on Sunday, in the only two games played due to rain for the nominating period, batting eight-for-eight with 10 RBIs. He was 3-for-3 with a 8 RBI in the opener, hitting a two-run double in the first, a three-run double in the second, a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and a two-run homer in the seventh.

He was then 5-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI in the nightcap, capping off his day with two hits in a seven-run eighth of a 14-4 win which included opening the frame with a double and ending it with an RBI single. He also added a two-out RBI single in the sixth. Of his eight hits in the doubleheader, five resulted in RBI and three led off innings to set the table, while he also had a walk and a hit by pitch to his credit.

Rosenbaum had another big day on Monday against Redlands (which was not part of the nominating period), going 3-for-4 with a homer and a double, finishing off the three-game series 11-for-12 with 12 RBI. His two-run homer in that game went an estimated 440 feet, clearing the trees behind the 360-foot left-field fence.

Rosenbaum is hitting .550 on the season.
