Redlands softball team moves up in national poll

The University of Redlands softball team impreoved four spots to No. 15 on this week’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Top-25 Poll, earning its highest position for the 2014 season thus far.

Redlands currently boasts a 16-game winning streak to go along with an undefeated mark in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition.   With a 16-0 conference record, the Bulldogs also possess a five-game lead in the conference standings, with six doubleheaders to go in the regular season.

Riverside native Kaitlyn Hooper, a senior pitcher,  was named the SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week for her outstanding contributions against Willamette (Ore.), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Cal Lutheran.  She now owns an ERA of 1.97 in 96 innings pitched to go along with a record of 14-2.

Redlands (20-6, 16-0 SCIAC) faces Whittier on Friday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at the Softball “Field of Dreams.”
