Megan Coleman of CMS earns national recognition

Defensive standout Megan Coleman of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps has been selected by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III Women’s Player of the Week for Oct. 20-26.

She had a major role in the Athenas upset of No. 2 Cal Lutheran, recording 24 digs and six assists with four of the digs coming in the decisive fifth set.

For the week she totaled 68 digs and 10 assists in wins over Cal Lu (24 digs), at Pomona-Pitzer (21 digs) and Occidental (23 digs). Against Occidental she also had four service aces.

In 2014, Coleman is averaging 5.84 digs per set which ranks 21st in Division III (Through Oct. 19 matches). Coleman is the first representative this season from the NCAA Division III West Region to be selected as the AVCA D-III Player of the Week.
