Pomona-Pitzer men’s soccer team heading to Texas for playoffs

The Pomona-Pitzer men’s soccer team will travel to Dallas and face regional host UT Dallas in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 1980, on Friday at 3 p.m.

Trinity (Texas), which is ranked No. 2 in the nation, and Hardin-Simmons are also assigned to the regional and will face each other in the other regional semifinal.

Pomona-Pitzer (14-5-1) will be making its second-NCAA Division III Tournament appearance after defeating Redlands 1-0 on Saturday in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

UT Dallas (13-4-3) earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after falling 2-0 to Hardin-Simmons in the championship game of the American Southwest Conference tournament this weekend.

The two teams met last year at Pomona-Pitzer in the regular season with UT Dallas winning 4-0.

The last time the Sagehens went to the NCAA Tournament in 1980, they fell 5-0 to Washington (Mo.).
